Tour Utah: Victoria y amarillo para Sepp Kuss

El joven norteamericano Sepp Kuss (Lotto NL-Jumbo) ha ganado la segunda etapa del Tour de Utah, con salida y llegada en Payson, tras una fuga de enorme mérito y nivel.

La etapa presentaba un largo y complicado ascenso hasta los más de 2.8o0 metros de altitud para después bajar de nuevo hasta Payson. El primero en pasar el puerto fue Kuss, ya escapado en solitario con un minuto sobre un trío perseguidor en el que figuraba Hugh Carthy (EF Education First-Drapac).

El grupo con el líder, Tejay Van Garderen, apenas integraba una decena de corredores y perdía 1’25» en la cima. El descenso se ha hecho a toda pastilla hasta meta, con las diferencias más o menos estables en favor de Kuss.

Más aún cuando Hugh Carthy se ha ido al suelo en la persecución, y ha sido sobrepasado por el grupo del líder. El propio Van Garderen en primera persona ha tenido que asumir el peso de la persecución antes de llegar a meta, ya que sólo llevaba 17 segundos al fugado en la general. Finalmente Kuss se ha proclamado vencedor y se viste de amarillo en el ecuador de la carrera.
