Filippo Ganna (1996, Ineos Grenadiers) ha ganado la primera etapa del Giro de Italia (2.UWT), una contrarreloj individual de 8,6 kilómetros en Turín. La maglia rosa es suya.
Ganna ha empezado el Giro 2021 como terminó el de 2020, mostrando su maestría y superioridad en la lucha contra el crono, mejor que Affini y Foss, ambos del Jumbo-Visma, a 10″ y 13″, respectivamente.
Entre los aspirantes al rosa, Almeida ha sido el mejor, cuarto a 17″, con Evenepoel séptimo a 19″ y Vlasov 11º a 24″; Carthy y Yates cedían 20″, Bernal 21″, Nibali 23″, Soler 24″ y Landa 34″.
Los velocistas tendrán su oportunidad en la segunda etapa del sábado, 179 kilómetros desde Stupinigi hasta Novara. Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal), Elia Viviani (Cofidis), Fernando Gaviria (UAE), Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma), Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) y Giacomo Nizzolo (Team Qhubeka Assos) son los principales nombres.
