Jan Tratnik ha ganado la Volta Limburg Classic al rematar una fuga a la que él llegó de forma tardía. Tratnik ha sido más rápido que Marco Tizza (Nippo-Vini Fantini) en meta.
Ocho ciclistas han compuesto la fuga del día en dos tiempos. Primero se han marchado seis corredores, un grupo en teoría poco peligroso, pero que a la larga ha sobrevivido: Eddie Dunbar (Aqua Blue), Degand (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Perry, Van den Dool (Delta), Marco Tizza (Nippo-Vini Fantini) y Riesebeek (Roompot-Niederlandse Looterij).
Pero la lluvia ha hecho acto de presencia -y por derecho, cayendo con fuerza- para complicarlo todo. Un verdadero aguacero que ha provocado numerosas caídas, entre ellas la de Riesebeek en el grupo cabecero. Jan Tratnik no estaba en la fuga inicial, pero ha salido a por ellos con más de 50 kilómetros hasta meta. Y una vez con el grupo cabecero, el esloveno ha mostrado enormes piernas.
En un principio se ha ido él solo del grupo de seis, pero luego sus compañeros han vuelto a darle caza. Con un nuevo ataque ha conseguido marcharse y cuando el grupo que le perseguía ha querido dar con él, ya estaba justo en la línea de meta.
