Fernando Gaviria es el primer líder de la historia de la Colombia Oro y Paz. El colombiano de Quick Step ha ganado con autoridad la primera etapa de la carrera rematando un tren perfecto e incontestable del conjunto belga. Gaviria ha vencido sobre otro colombiano, Sebastián Molano (Manzana Postobon).
El equipo Quick Step no ha tenido rival a la hora de controlar la carrera. El tren formado por Iljo Keisse, Álvaro Hodeg y Max Richeze ha sido determinante y el corredor colombiano ha ganado prácticamente por dos bicicletas de ventaja. De hecho, Molano se ha pegado a la rueda de Gaviria y llegar con lo que tenía le ha valido para ser segundo, porque el pelotón se ha roto.
Buena etapa, una vez más, para el jovencísimo Manuel Peñalver (Unieuro-Trevigiani) que ha sido noveno en la línea de meta. El cántabro está firmando un muy buen inicio en tierras americanas por su primera temporada profesional. Es el tercer Top10 que consigue en lo que va de año.
El gran perjudicado ha sido Nairo Quintana ha sido víctima de una caída cuando faltaban apenas cinco kilómetros para la llegada. Aparentemente sin consecuencias graves, ha podido seguir con la bicicleta de su hermano Dayer. El jefe de filas de Movistar ha conseguido en el último momento entrar al pelotón y no ha perdido tiempo. Día salvado, pendiente del alcance de las magulladuras.
El jueves se disputa la segunda etapa, también con salida y llegada en Palmira y con otra nueva opción de llegada masiva en la que Gaviria puede repetir triunfo.
