Vuelta Castilla y León: Carlos Barbero reina frente al viento

Carlos Barbero es el primer líder de la Vuelta a Castilla y León tras ganar la etapa inaugural en las calles de Salamanca, en un día que ha resultado verdaderamente duro por el viento. Segundo ha sido Jon Aberasturi y tercero Eduard Prades, en un final donde apenas 30 de los casi 120 participantes han llegado delante a meta.

«Aire, aire. Pasa, pasa. Que tenga la puerta abierta la alegría de mi casa», cantaba José Mercé. Esa era la frase que me vino a la cabeza al salir de la localidad de Alba de Tormes y ver cómo se movían ramas, matorrales, hierbas y tierra. Un viento cabezón que, teniendo en cuenta el recorrido, les ha dado a favor, en contra, de un costado y del otro. A lo mejor los ciclistas no estarían muy de acuerdo con Mercé en lo de ‘la alegría de mi casa’. Además, con intensidad suficiente como para que, de salida, el pelotón se hiciera añicos para después recomponerse en tres pedazos. Después de casi 20 kilómetros de batalla se formaría la fuga y las aguas volvieron a la calma.

Por detrás, Movistar Team y Euskadi-Murias asumiendo el peso para buscar el sprint masivo… hasta que en un nuevo giro el viento volvió a entrar de costado y se acabó la paz. La aventura, con Delio Fernández y Smukulis (Delko-Marseille), Whitehouse (Interpro-Stradalli) y Evtushenko (Lokosphinx), murió a 50 de meta. O sea, con una hora de carrera todavía por delante, y Eolo soplando a bomba llena.

Era cuestión de tiempo que hubiese corte, y en este caso se fueron 27 ciclistas de nuevo con Euskadi-Murias y Movistar Team bien representados, pero los equipos que no tenían representación han terminado por echarla abajo -con la ayuda de los propios fugados y su desentendimiento- y fusionar un grupo que lo mismo que engordaba por delante iba perdiendo unidades por detrás a medida que se preparaba la llegada con aire de cara.

Probablemente habrá sprint de nuevo este sábado en Palencia. Ya dependerá de que el viento decida volver a aparecer como lo ha hecho en Salamanca, pero carreteras a campo abierto y pocas dificultades montañosas son ingrediente perfecto para una nueva llegada masiva.
